Biz on Heels! How to Get Selected for the African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative.

This year, I was selected for the African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative (AWEC). I’m learning from world-class CEOs & faculty for FREE with all-expense paid travel to 2 African countries for summits. The applications have opened for the second cohort in 2019 and I encourage eligible ladies to apply. This is how to get selected.

AWEC is a 12-month business learning program that’s unlike your traditional business school. No matter where you are in the world, as long as you have internet access, you can participate. The program gives you access to practical training and a fantastic network.

Who can apply?

Any woman born in Africa who runs a business or an NGO in Africa is eligible to apply. Women in the Diaspora are eligible if your business impacts the continent. You can be aspiring, young or established as long as you desire business growth! You must also be proficient in English, as that’s the language of instruction during the program.

What to expect.

Even though AWEC is free for participants, you must be ready to work hard. You will be required to commit your time to live sessions, individual assignments, group work, peer reviews and mentor sessions. It is an intensive but incredibly practical program.

So, you can keep your full time job and carry out your daily activities while participating. Just remember that your commitment is required in order to keep your grades up. If you do not keep certain grades, you will not be able to advance in the program or attend summits.

The benefits.

When we started, we did not know that we will attend the September 2018 summit in Rwanda or the March 2019 summit in Egypt (both all-expense paid trips). But now you know! The countries will change but these summits are amazing networking opportunities. I cannot tell you how valuable my new skills are. The growth of TVP Adventures is largely attributed to my AWEC training. I’ve been able to partner with fellow Nigerian AWEC participants and some in Kenya, Rwanda and South Africa. So how do you get in?

Content of Application.

You’ll answer questions about your biggest career obstacle, how you overcame it, your previous group work experience and what you’ve learned from collaborative efforts, how you handle weak links in a team (as a leader and as a team member) and current skill gaps in your business and career. Take your time to answer honestly and present yourself as a viable candidate for AWEC.

Deadline and Dates:
